Bi-objective optimization for road vertical alignment design

<p><span class="fontstyle0">This manuscript defines a bi-objective optimization model to finds road profiles that optimize the road construction cost and the vehicle operating costs, specifically the fuel consumption. The research implements and validates the formula for the fuel consumption cost. Typology of municipal solid waste recycling value chains: A global perspective

<p><span class="fontstyle0">Municipal solid waste (MSW) management that seeks to recover wasted resources and return them to the system as secondary commodities (hence, it promotes circularity in resource recovery systems) is a process instigated by recycling value chains. Recycling value chains are termed as the chain of processes (i.e., value chain activities and performance) and structures (formal/informal networks of stakeholders) created and shaped by the relations of stakeholders operating across the value chain, aimed at connecting production with the management of recyclable waste resources. At present, recycling processes and structures are not well depicted in the global literature due to the heterogeneity of terms used across countries and disciplines, and the lack of holistic insight into the way recycling chains operate. This critical review aims to disentangle the diverse terminology used to describe recycling value chains globally and provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art of MSW recyclable waste materials management in developed and developing economies emphasising their potential in promoting circularity. The study proposes a typology for describing the management of recyclable waste materials across the globe, and highlights that each of the three types of recycling value chains developed is a highly complex, context-specific system, deeply constructed on long-term political, organisational, and institutional aspects. While this typology can be a simplistic way of depicting the type of recycling value chain that is most prevalent in different countries around the globe, it can reveal how different forms of governance affect coordination in recycling networks and, by extent, their recycling performance. Therefore, this study can help researchers and decision-makers understand how recycling value chain systems operate at large and explore different ways to improve resource recovery from waste that Pengaruh Penerapan E-System Perpajakan Terhadap Tingkat Kepatuhan Wajib Pajak Orang Pribadi

<p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Pengaruh penerapan e-System perpajakan terhadap tingkat kepatuhan wajib pajak orang pribadi pada Kantor Pelayanan Pajak Pratama Denpasar Timur. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 100 wajib pajak orang pribadi yang aktif dan terdaftar di KPP Pratama Denpasar Timur. Salah satu metode yang digunakan untuk menentukan jumlah sampel adalah menggunakan rumus Slovin. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah regresi linear berganda. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan data primer yang diperoleh dari jawaban wajib pajak orang pribadi yang terdaftar di KPP Pratama Denpasar Timur, yaitu jawaban terhadap serangkaian pertanyaan kuesioner yang diajukan dari peneliti mengenai faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi kepatuhan pajak. Sampel ditentukan menggunakan nonprobability sampling dengan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan e-Registration, e-Billing, dan e-Filling berpengaruh positif terhadap kepatuhan Wajib Pajak orang pribadi pada KPP Pratama Denpasar Timur.</p> <p><br></p><p>Green technologies have been globally accepted as efficient and sustainable techniques for the utilization of natural resources. Currently, Industry 4.0, which is also called a "smart industry", aims for the integration of cyber and physical systems to minimize waste and maximize productivity. Therefore, green technologies can be identified as key components in Industry 4.0. The scope of this Special Issue is to address how conventional green technologies can be a part of smart industries by minimizing waste, maximizing productivity, optimizing the supply chain, or by additive manufacturing (3D printing). This theme focuses on the scope and challenges of integrating current environmental technologies in future industries.</p><p>This Special Issue "Green Technologies: Bridging Conventional Practices and Industry 4.0" invites manuscripts from academicians working on green technology-related processes. Authors are invited to submit original research articles covering topics which include, but are not limited to, the following areas: (1) the development of new disease-specific models to guide therapy; (2) air pollution monitoring and control; (3) carbon emission reduction; (4) computational tools for environmental applications; (5) energy and environmental policy; (6) environmental monitoring, assessment and management; (7) Industry 4.0; (8) process system engineering; (9) renewable energy; (10) solid/biomass waste treatment, management, and recycling; and (11) waste minimization, etc. The manuscripts were regularly submitted, selected and reviewed by the regular system and accepted for publication. This Special Issue, “Green Technologies: Bridging Conventional Practices and Industry 4.0′′, aims to incorporate and introduce the advances in green technologies to the cyber-based industries.</p>

<p>It is anticipated that by 2050, we will have nine billion people to feed—how can we manage? That time 60% of people will be living in urban areas, and they will have higher demands for animal-derived proteins up to 60 kg of meat and 30 kg of fish. What comes to farmed animals for human consumption, there is a need for 7% annual increase in chicken and aquaculture to produce 60 billion chickens and 140 million tons of aquaculture products.</p><p>Other protein alternatives will be needed and could according to [1] come from (a) capturing more out of oceans (medusa, jellyfish, krill); (b) farming the sea (macro- and microalgae (spirulina—high-tech); (c) artificial proteins (Ap) but presently in vitro meat costs 120,000 USD/kg; (d) more out of agro-industry processing (Aip) by-products (corn gluten, brewers’ grains, yeasts, potato protein concentrate, distiller’s dried grain with soluble); (e) farming more plant protein sources (oil seeds, legumes, forages, trees (like Moringa leaves)); (f) compete for land, water, fertilizers, farm inputs; or (g) high-capital/high-tech (Aip, Ap, spirulina algae) potential (regional niche markets).</p>

<p><br></p><p>Functional nutrition has become one of the main directions for a healthy lifestyle and sustainable food production due to its promising positive influence on health and its association with the use of raw materials of natural origin [1-3]. Therefore, it has attracted great interest from both consumers and manufacturers concerned about human well-being and sustainable economic growth [4]. Not surprisingly, new socio-demographic trends (e.g., longer life expectancy, promotion of healthy lifestyles, better healthcare, etc.) supported functional sector to become an increasingly lucrative segment of the food industry with a rapidly growing market [5].</p><p>Functional foods are industrially processed or unprocessed natural foods that have beneficial health effects beyond their basic nutritional value when consumed regularly [6]. Consumers today are increasingly looking for products that are safe, natural, have Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status, and are produced using sustainable and/or ecologically sound technologies. For this reason, "functional food" is an increasingly popular term in the social and scientific spheres, so the industry is continuously investing in the development of a sector that can offer products with additional benefits for consumer health. Here, it is important to emphasize that clinical trials (randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled) should be conducted for the foods that are to be labeled as "functional" in order to draw conclusions about the health benefits of the products [6].</p>

Dynamic interactions in large scale photovoltaic power plants with frequency and voltage support

<p><span class="fontstyle0">The increasing penetration of Large-Scale Photovoltaic Power Plants in the power system is raising the concern of potential stability issues due to dynamic interactions of power electronics components. In particular, Power Plant Controllers are starting to provide a fast dynamic response for specific services, such as fast frequency response, which could trigger unexpected unstable interactions with the PV inverters or other grid components. Also, an eventual reduction of synchronous generation in the grid could lead to a power system with high penetration of power electronics, which presents unexplored stability problems. This paper presents an interaction and stability study of a Photovoltaic Power Plant connected to the grid. This study is based on a small-signal analysis employing eigenvalues and participation factors to identify potential unstable modes. A linear model of the Photovoltaic Power Plant is implemented to apply a small-signal analysis.
