<p>This book covers all the areas of scientific research and development of soybean, especially physiology and metabolism, seed production, breeding and genetics, food from soybean seeds, and new soy foods. The demand for soybean seeds has been increasing due to their unique nutritional values. Annual soybean production increased to 350 Mt in 2017, which was followed by that of corn (1100 Mt), wheat (800 Mt), and rice (800 Mt). Soybean seeds contain a large amount of protein (about 40%) and oil (about 20%) and the matured seeds do not contain starch, which is the major nutrient in corn, wheat, and rice seeds. Identification of environmental hotspots in fishmeal and fish oil production towards the optimization of energy-related processes

<p>This study assessed the environmental impacts of a pelagic fishmeal and fish oil production plant in Iceland with the life cycle assessment methodology. The study focused on assessing the effects of different energy sources for utility production due to the high energy intensity of fishmeal and fish oil production, as quality improved with lower cooking temperature. The environmental hotspots of three different processing scenarios were assessed, where the factory was run on hydropower (Scenario 0), heavy fuel (Scenario 1) and a composition of both (Scenario 2), from cradle-to-factory gate. Midpoint results showed that the raw material acquisition contributed the most to the environmental impact when the fishmeal factory was operating on hydropower. However, drying had the highest impact when heavy fuel oil was used for utility production. This study also demonstrated that lowering the cooking temperature from 90 to 85 ◦C, led to improved quality and simultaneously reduced environmental impacts during processing. This indicated that a small energy adjustment in the production can have an environmental gain, demonstrating the necessity to optimize each processing step in the fishmeal and fish oil production Sustainable waste electrical and electronic equipment management guide in emerging economies context: A structural model approach

<p><span class="fontstyle0">With globalization and the rapid advancement of information technology, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) management has become a significant concern among electronic manufacturers. It motivated researchers to identify barriers and enablers of sustainable WEEE management. However, existing literature could not capture multi-stakeholder</span><span class="fontstyle2">’</span><span class="fontstyle0">s perspective while identifying enablers crucial for developing sustainable WEEE management policy, especially in emerging economies. The present study fulfils the gap by considering multi-stakeholder</span><span class="fontstyle2">’</span><span class="fontstyle0">s perspective to identify enablers of sustainable WEEE management in an emerging economy, i.e., India. We identified 23 potential enablers through literature review and discussion with domain experts. Subsequently, the finalized enablers were analyzed to uncover the cause-effect relationship using a hybrid greybased decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach. Findings revealed that research and development capabilities and digitization, extended producer responsibility, monitoring of illegal import and dumping, environmental regulations and WEEE policies, and use of green or cleaner technologies for waste recycling were recognized as the most significant causal enablers. The study contributes to the theoretical knowledge by categorizing enablers under different theoretical frameworks. It can also assist policymakers, practitioners, and electronic manufacturers in framing policies related to the circular economy and sustainable WEEE management to meet the sustainable development A missing layer in COVID-19 studies: Transmission of enveloped viruses in mucus-rich droplets

<p>Here we evaluate the influence of mucus layers on the evaporation time and transport of enveloped viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. Enveloped viruses must remain moist to be fully infective. Yet, the Wells model based on water droplets divides respiratory droplets into either quickly evaporated aerosolized particles termed droplet nuclei (&lt;10 s) or liquid droplets that fall to the nearest surface, leaving no physical mechanism for airborne transmission of fully infective enveloped viruses over large distances (greater than a few meters). Yet, the role of mucus layers on evaporation times has not been considered even though the formation of mucus shells around liquid cores of respiratory droplets has been shown experimentally. Here we show that mucus shells increase the drying time by orders of magnitude so that enveloped virions may remain well hydrated and, thus, fully infective at substantial distances. This provides a mechanism by which infective enveloped virus particles can transmit as aerosols within buildings and between buildings over extended distances. This analysis is important because public health agencies typically follow the Wells model to establish health policies including social/physical distancing guidelines.</p> <script>function <p>Wind energy occupies a leading place among renewable energy sources for electric power system generation. The cumulative installations of wind turbines are continuously growing, and last year the cumulative capacity increased by nearly 11%, to around 539 GW [Wind Energy Systems. Proceedings of the IEEE, 2017], and it is expected to transcend 760 GW by 2020 [Renewables 2018 Global Status Report—REN21]. Today, the global installed renewable generation capacity has passed 2000 GW, where hydro-power counts for around 1000 GW.</p><p>Moreover, in 2017, the offshore wind power sector had its best year yet and its total capacity increased by 30%. This constant increase in the rapid pace of wind power is due to significant technological achievements in recent years, and it has made it possible to lower the cost of energy dramatically from that coming from wind turbines. The size of wind turbines continues to increase, and several manufacturers have announced plans to produce wind turbines of 10 MW and larger [Wind Energy Systems. Proceedings of the IEEE, 2017]. All of the above is achieved through technological advancements, including advanced wind speed prediction; advanced control methods; power electronics and its control; advanced manufacturing techniques; new materials, but also fault detection and diagnostic methods, which can provide a high level of reliability; availability; maintainability; and safety for the wind turbines. The competition between the different renewable energy sources is intense—photovoltaic power is constantly pushing the limits of lowering the cost of energy—and thereby also challenges wind power technology to come up with better and more cost-effective solutions.</p>

<p><span class="fontstyle0">This article presents the Ant Colony Optimization algorithm to solve the Travelling Salesman Problem. The proposed algorithm implements three novel techniques to enhance the overall performance, lower the execution time and reduce the negative effects particularly connected with ACO-based methods such as falling into a local optimum and issues with settings of control parameters for different instances. These techniques include (a) the node clustering concept where transition nodes are organised in a set of clusters, (b) adaptive pheromone evaporation controlled dynamically based on the information entropy and (c) the formulation of the new termination condition based on the diversity of solutions in population. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed principles, a number of experiments were conducted using 30 benchmark instances (ranging from 51 to 2,392 nodes with various nodes topologies) taken from the well-known TSPLIB benchmarks and the results are compared with several state-of-the-art ACO-based methods; the proposed algorithm outperforms these rival methods in most cases. The impact of the novel techniques on the behaviour of the algorithm is thoroughly analysed and discussed in respect to the overall performance, execution time and convergence.</span> <br
