<p>Since the beginning of civilization, humans and animals developed very strong associations to their mutual benefits. The lives of humans and animals have been connected in all aspects. Early humans learned to raise animals for food and this continues today. Ruminant livestock are the most domesticated animals that includes bovines, ovines and caprines.</p><p>Livestock, particularly bovines, are important contributors to total food production in the world. Moreover, their contribution increases at a higher rate than that of cereals. These animals play very important economic and socio-cultural roles for the welfare of rural households. They help in employment, soil fertility, livelihoods, transport, agricultural traction, agricultural diversification, food supply, source of income and also in sustainable agricultural production. These animals play an important role in food supply for rural and urban areas and contribute to family nutrition. Products such as milk, eggs, and meat are used as a source of food, with other livestock products used for domestic consumption.</p>

<p>The chapter presents results of original research undertaken on the propensity to invest and save in the era of rapid development of new technologies and their impact on financial markets. The research examines the behavior and preferences of market participants and their relationship with financial literacy and attitudes toward digitalization of financial services. Research was conducted on international samples of similar sizes from countries chosen as representative - Poland, India, and the US, which adds a country-diversity dimension to the examination of the economic and psychological perspectives. It incorporates the post-pandemic reality and worldwide effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The questionnaire included numerous detailed questions regarding saving and investment decisions while the analysis also included factor analysis giving standardized values for the whole dataset for all three countries. We derived factor variables, which provided a more com- prehensive understanding of the inclinations of individuals toward saving or investment. Results show the current picture of financialization of contemporary societies, accounting for the impact of economic and cultural differences, by comparing data from international samples. Special attention is paid to analyzing financial literacy, the familiarity with digital financial tools, and attitudes toward recommendations made by AI algorithms versus human financial advisors.<br></p>

<p>Agriculture requires technical solutions for increasing production while lessening environmental impact by reducing the application of agro-chemicals and increasing the use of environmentally friendly management practices. A benefit of this is the reduction of production costs. Sensor technologies produce tools to achieve the abovementioned goals. The explosive technological advances and developments in recent years have enormously facilitated the attainment of these objectives, removing many barriers for their implementation, including the reservations expressed by farmers. Precision agriculture and ‘smart farming’ are emerging areas where sensor-based technologies play an important role. Farmers, researchers, and technical manufacturers are joining their efforts to find efficient solutions, improvements in production, and reductions in costs. This book brings together recent research and developments concerning novel sensors and their applications in agriculture. Sensors in agriculture are based on the requirements of farmers, according to the farming operations that need to be addressed.<br></p>

Groundwater Overexploitation in the North China Plain: A Path to Sustainability

<p>The agricultural sector increasingly relies on groundwater abstraction for irrigation in many regions of the world. Expansion of irrigated agriculture and groundwater use has contributed to increased food production and has improved food security. At the same time, the depletion of groundwater resources by excessive pumping has become a common challenge in key agricultural production areas across the world, threatening the sustainability of production. Over-pumping of aquifers causes ecological and environmental degradation of vegetation, wetlands, and streams and reduces the ability of aquifers to serve as a buffer for weather extremes induced by climate change. Unsustainable use of groundwater needs to be urgently addressed through sustainable rehabilitation and management strategies, in order to assure the availability of groundwater, today and for future generations. Recognizing the groundwater over-exploitation issue in the North China Plain, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Ministry of Water</p><p>Resources of the People’s Republic of China co-launched the project “Rehabilitation and management strategies of over-pumped aquifers in a changing climate” in 2014, in partnership with the China Geological Survey. The leading project implementation partner on the Chinese side was the General Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning Design (GIWP), while the leading project implementation partner on the Swiss side was the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich.<br></p>

Reliability aspects in microgrid design and planning: Status and power electronics-induced challenges

<p>Microgrids are highlighted as the technology which can help in providing sustainable and efficient electrical energy solutions. They employ distributed energy resources to efficiently supply local load and increase the reliability of the local network. Design and planning are of a pivotal importance in yielding all of the advantages this concept can provide. Reliability-oriented design is of a special interest for microgrids utilizing a large share of the renewable energy-based, power electronics-interfaced distributed energy resources. A state-of-the-art overview included in this paper has shown that the main reliability-oriented microgrid design improvements are done in the field of distributed energy resources sizing and scheduling combined with the relevant forecasting and optimization methods. It is, further on, concluded that the standard power system reliability assessment within the design often excludes the wear-out failure of power electronics. However, previous field experience has shown that the power electronics is prone to wear-out failure and can have adverse impact on the reliability of the power electronics-dominated system. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the current reliability methods to enable accurate investigation of power electronics reliability and its impact on system design. To do so, the main characteristics of the wear-out modelling concepts together with the recent publications bridging the power electronics and power system reliability are discussed in detail. Finally, the main findings included in this overview paper can serve as basis for development of the new procedures for reliability-oriented design and planning of future, power electronics-dominated <p><br></p><p>Libraries are places of learning and knowledge creation. While this mission has been the same for centuries, the way it is delivered is constantly evolving. Over the last two decades, digital technology—and the changes that came with it-have accelerated this transformation to a point where evolution starts to become a revolution.</p><p>The wider Open Science movement, and Open Access in particular, is one of these changes, and it is already having a profound impact. Under the subscription model, the role of libraries was to buy or license content on behalf of their users and then act as gatekeepers to regulate access on behalf of rights holders. In a world where all research is open, the role of the library is shifting from licensing and disseminating to facilitating and supporting the publishing process itself.</p><p>This requires a fundamental shift in terms of structures, tasks and skills. It also changes the idea of a library's collection. Under the subscription model, contemporary collections largely equal content bought from publishers. Under an open model, the collection is more likely to be the content created by the users of the library (researchers, staff, students etc.), content that is now curated by the library. Instead of selecting external content, libraries have to understand the content created by their own users and help them to make it publicly available- be it through a local repository, payment of article processing charges or through advice and guidance. Arguably this is an overly simplified model and it leaves aside special collections and other areas. Even so, it highlights the changes that research libraries are undergoing, changes that are likely to accelerate due to initiatives like Plan S.</p><p>This special issue investigates some of the changes in today's library services that relate to open access.</p>

Linking B2B sales performance to entrepreneurial self-efficacy, entrepreneurial selling actions

<p>This study addresses the interrelationships between a business-to-business (B2B) salesperson’s sales performance and their level of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial sales actions. Data was collected through a survey of 252 participants (B2B salespeople working in Australia). Structured equation modeling was used to analyze and test the hypotheses. The findings suggest that entrepreneurial self-efficacy strongly influences sales innovativeness and creative selling, highlighting the importance of senior management encouraging and rewarding new selling methods (a salesperson’s entrepreneurial actions). Finally, these sales actions positively and significantly impacted individual sales performance. Thus, creative selling and sales innovativeness are powerful influencers of personal sales performance. This research contributes to the sales performance literature by highlighting the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE), creative selling, and sales innovativeness. These findings provide additional lessons for senior management when pursuing increased growth and sales performance. As ESE has a positive impact on a salesperson’s actions and performance, senior management may wish to encourage an internal environment in which ESE behaviors are not only accepted but
